This course is aimed at, but not exclusively for, those working in Primary and Community Care. It looks at the definition of epilepsy, its diagnosis and the basics of treatment, including emergency medication. We look at what Health Professionals can offer people with epilepsy including school nurses and health visitors who see the child with the new diagnosis of epilepsy and the impact that has on the family. We will look at videos of people having seizures to show how subtle some seizures can be.
For GPs, Practice Nurses and DNs we will also look at QOF, contraception, pregnancy, learning disability, dementia and stroke. With a more holistic approach to the care of patients with epilepsy in mind, we also provide you with a framework for doing annual reviews in Primary Care as recommended by SIGN and NICE.
The cost of a half day/4 hours course aimed at GPs, Practice Nurses and District Nurses is £60 per head.
The cost of a 2.5 hours course aimed at Health Visitors and School Nurses is £30 per head.
The course is usually delivered at our offices in Govan Road, Glasgow or Harewood Road, Edinburgh. It can also be delivered in the workplace.
