Leave a gift in your will

More and more people are choosing to leave a gift in their will to a cause they feel deeply about. Your contribution can make a real difference to people with epilepsy for years to come.

How to leave a gift in your will

To make a will it is important that you contact a solicitor. Click here to search for a solicitor registered with the Law Society of Scotland.

The types of gift you can leave to charity:

  • A share of your estate. This is known as a ‘residuary gift’ and is a percentage of what remains after your estate has been shared between your loved ones.
  • A cash gift. This is known as a ‘pecuniary gift’ and is an exact sum of money.
  • A specific gift. This is a specific item and can be anything from a piece of jewellery to a house.

If you have already made a Will and want to add a gift to Epilepsy Scotland, one easy way is to add an amendment called a Codicil. Any changes to your will must be legally witnessed, always consult a solicitor.

“Without Epilepsy Scotland’s Welfare Rights Service, it is safe to say I wouldn’t be where I am now. Without my disability payment I would be extremely isolated and prone to (more) depressive episodes.” (Angie)
