Michael is the Labour MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West and was elected in October 2023. He has worked in politics and in the charitable sector for a decade.

Having completed Epilepsy Scotland training for many years, Michael knew of the important role the charity plays in supporting those working with people with epilepsy and the sector-leading role in representing people with epilepsy.

Michael wanted to put some of his skills and experience to good use as the charity moves forward over the next few years.

He has worked on projects relating to youth justice, education, mental health and poverty, and inequality.

He also leads a charity for young people with complex disabilities and has been a Trustee of a number of other organisations.
