Disability Equality and Epilepsy

This course is suitable for anyone with a personal or professional interest in disability. It is particularly suitable for those working in social care or education, who deal daily with people with disabilities such as epilepsy. The course is delivered by a qualified disability consultant. The training aims to:

  • To increase participants' wider disability knowledge and relate this learning effectively to realistic situations and issues of equality.
  • To introduce participants to the social model of disability and demonstrate how this relates to recent disability legislation.
  • To introduce the concept of disability social inclusion and highlight the positive impact its application has for people who experience epilepsy.
  • To encourage increase participant confidence in dealing with a wide range of disability related challenges.

Courses are rooted firmly in the social model of disability. They are participant centred with a high degree of trainer and peer support. By the end of the course participants will:

  • Have a greater understanding of the terms social model of disability and disability social inclusion.
  • Be able to appreciate and identify the major barriers that prevent the process of inclusion taking place.
  • Have sufficient knowledge and experience to be able to influence organisational policy and practice in relation to disability equality matters.
