Befriending
“Choices” is our volunteer befriending service. It supports people, from 0 - 65 plus with epilepsy and disability to get out and about in their community and to access recreational activities. It to promotes social inclusion by introducing people to services and communities of their choice. We assist people to gain a full and enjoyable social life without fear of discrimination, isolation, prejudice and inequality.
We aim:
- To support people with epilepsy who feel isolated to be included in society and play a part in their community.
- Person centered service
- Quality service which promotes an inclusive society
- All personnel involved with the project will be trained to a high standard
- Goal specific – long and short term goals will be established with these included
- Who also have a learning disability
- Who are going through the traumatic experience of being recently diagnosed
- Whose seizures are not well controlled through medication
- Who live on their own
- Increased confidence, independence and self esteem
- Increased awareness about epilepsy
- Choice and control for the person with epilepsy
- Friendship, fun and contact with peers
- Allowing time away and space for other family members
- Opportunity to be involved in local and wider based activities.
