Policy Work

Policy Events

Epilepsy Scotland organises regular conferences, seminars and discussion events to address key topics of relevance to health practitioners and policy makers.

The conference programmes involve politicians, expert clinicians, policy makers, academics and people affected by epilepsy.

Epilepsy Scotland’s policy events are followed up with a brief report spelling out key issues and recommendations.

Epilepsy in later life conference and guideline

Our epilepsy in later life conference was a great success. Delegates from primary care, neurology services and care of the elderly services joined others with an interest in the care of older people. Our speakers presented a proposed guideline for the diagnosis, management and referral of people with epilepsy in later life. Delegates were then asked for their input. Overall, the response to the draft guideline was positive. The discussion sessions drew out valuable suggestions for the final version. We are now gathering more views from GPs across Scotland. By the end of October their feedback will be included in the final guideline. This will be ready in the New Year and can be downloaded from our website.
