Education

One of our key strategic aims is “to fight the discrimination and stigma experienced by people affected by epilepsy”.

We campaign at a national level, through the Cross Party Group on Epilepsy, and by producing high quality written and online information for people affected by epilepsy.

Launch of teachers guidelinesOne of our key campaigns in recent years has been to help improve information for teachers and to help tackle the discrimination faced by children with epilepsy. We have produced an information leaflet for teachers on managing epilepsy, guideline for teachers. The leaflet covers topics such as “what is epilepsy?, why does epilepsy happen?, types of seizures and first aid for dealing with seizures in school.

This guide was sent to every school in Scotland and is one of the key ways that we are raising awareness about epilepsy in schools. The guide is currently being updated and we are soon going to be producing guides for young people to help them understand their epilepsy and for parents of children with epilepsy.
