Epilepsy Wellbeing Service

Epilepsy Wellbeing Service

Added: 21 November 2016, 12:37

Epilepsy Scotland is proud to announce a new Glasgow based service aimed at helping people with epilepsy live life to its fullest potential.  Research suggests that long term stress can make seizures worse for up to 85% of people with epilepsy.  Our aim is to give you the skill and support you need to move forward.

Our Service:

A diagnosis of epilepsy can touch on many different areas of a person’s life like employment, driving and independence.  This can lead to increased stress and anxiety and/or a loss of self-confidence.  While stress itself doesn’t cause epilepsy, it has been shown that reducing stress can improve seizure control.

Epilepsy Scotland is running a pilot scheme to help people better manage their epilepsy.  As part of this service we are offering:

  • 1:1 sessions based around ‘Getting your life back’

  • Breathing and relaxation classes

  • Walking group

  • Seminar: How to get a good night’s sleep

  • Seminar: Diet and epilepsy

  • Epilepsy awareness training

  • Professional counselling service (limited availability)

All these services are free. In return we ask that you commit to taking part, and that you help us fill in evaluation questionnaires.  This will evidence the benefits of this service to help secure future funding.  The service is Glasgow based and is open to anyone who can travel to take part.  During the pilot program, the sessions will be during the day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Epilepsy Wellbeing Service Booklet
