Drug alerts for Buccal Midazolam

Added: 7 August 2014, 09:26

Please note 2 drug alerts have recently been issued for Buccal Midazolam by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).   These affect the following:

Midazolam Buccal Liquid 10mg/1ml, 5ml, manufactured by Penn Pharma, distributed in Quantum Pharma livery.   The reason for this recall is that the screw caps on some of the units have not been correctly placed during manufacture.  This may result in evaporation of the water component of the medicine and may result in an increased concentration of Midazolam.  To check if your medicine is from the affected batches, please follow this link .  If your medicine is affected, don't use it, and contact your pharmacist for an exchange.

Buccolam 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg Oromucosal Solution manufactured by ViroPharma.  The reason for this recall is that a routine inspection identified the possibility for chemical contamination, however, NO evidence of contamination has been identified in the affected batches.  Please follow this link to check for more information.    This is just a precautionary measure and as there is no risk to patient safety, the medicine has only been recalled at pharmacy/wholesaler level.  If you are concerned, talk to your pharmacist or epilepsy specialist nurse.
