Best Practice Certificate for Epilepsy

Are you a supportive employer?

Epilepsy Scotland is the leading charity that tackles discrimination and stigma facing many people with epilepsy throughout Scotland.

We are offering every Scottish employer a best practice certificate for doing the right things if an employee develops or has epilepsy. Our certificate acknowledges organisations which follow disability employment legislation when it comes to epilepsy.

Even if no employee has epilepsy at the moment, you can still send for a best practice certificate if your organisation has policies and procedures in place for recruiting and supporting someone with this common neurological condition.
One in 130 people develop epilepsy during their lifetime. By displaying this certificate, your organisation raises awareness of epilepsy and shows it is ready to help people with this disability.

How to apply

Both employees and employers can put their organisation forward for a best practice certificate. Please read through the legal requirements checklist, on the certificate registration form. If your organisation states it is doing all these things – and good employers will follow these basic disability employment procedures – Epilepsy Scotland will award a certificate for best practice. It can be renewed yearly.

Please complete our recommended practice checklist. This is the gold standard for epilepsy-friendly practices in the workplace.

Simply ask one of these representatives from your organisation (e.g. Chair, Chief Executive, Director, Human Resources Manager or Company Secretary) to complete the certificate registration form. This confirms the organisation is implementing the legal requirements checklist. A certificate will be sent to you.
