Driving
The Law
People with epilepsy can drive if they meet the legal
requirements described on the next page. Your doctor’s
opinion on your safety as a driver is also needed.
Ordinary driving licences
An ordinary driving licence can be given to a person with
epilepsy if they are unlikely to be a danger to the public and:
- They have not had an epileptic seizure (with or without medication) for at least 1 year before the licence is to come into effect or
- They continue to have seizures whilst asleep but three years
have passed and they have had no seizures whilst awake.
