A much needed break ...

Affordable fun for all the family

Epilepsy Scotland is delighted to be able to offer a heavily subsidised holiday caravan based at Seton Sands Holiday Park resort in the Lothians to families and individuals affected by a disability and on a low income.

This has been made possible thanks to a very generous grant from Spifox which allowed us to purchase this luxury caravan.  A generous donation from Ikea went towards purchase of soft furnishings, and we also received support from players of  The People's Postcode Lottery.

Seton Sands is a holiday park in a tranquil setting, stretching along the southern bank of the Firth of Forth and only a few miles away from Edinburgh.

Who is entitled to apply?

Families and individuals, who have a disability or are affected by a disability, and who are on a low income can apply.  Please have a look at the application form which gives more information on whose eligible to apply.

How much does it cost?

You only pay a non-refundable £90 administration charge.  That's all.  This covers a full week, Friday to Friday, with all the facilities at the caravan and a free entertainment pass for all family members, see details below.  You are, however, responsible for your own travel costs and any other expenses you may incur.  We are unfortunately not in a position to provide financial assistance for these additional expenses, but if you need help with these, please contact  Turn2Us, 0808 802 2000 who can do a funders' search and find you details of those charities/trusts that may be able to help.

Facilities at the caravan

The caravan is an extra wide, modern, 2 bedroom static home, sleeping up to six adults and children.  It has a spacious and airy living area with a well-equipped, practical kitchen to make sure you and your family will feel at home from the moment you walk into this holiday home. The two stylish bedrooms are equipped with ample storage space. The standard of finish is exceptionally high with superior fixtures and fittings.  The caravan has a separate, generously proportioned shower room and toilet.

It may be suitable for someone with a mobility issue, for example someone walking with the aid of a zimmer frame, but we currently do not have a ramp.  The caravan is, unfortunately, not wheelchair accessible.  Check out the floorplan below for further information on the layout of the caravan.  If you want to discuss your specific needs, please email caravan@epilepsyscotland.org.uk or contact Jacqui Telfer on 0131 659 4730.

All kitchen equipment and bedding is provided. There is also a small selection of games and a television. Those using the caravan must bring their own toiletries, towels and food. There is a small shop on site and a Co-op a short distance away by bus or car where most items can be bought.

If you require a cot or high chair, we can arrange for these to be hired from the caravan site.  We regret that pets, apart from assistance dogs, are not allowed into the caravan as some people have allergies to pet hair.

On-site entertainment for the whole family

The site offers plenty of activities and entertainment opportunities to keep the whole family busy both on-site and nearby. It is only a short walk from the beach and a regular bus service into Edinburgh and local towns and villages makes it easy for you to explore the surrounding area.

Free entertainment pass

Everyone staying at the caravan will receive a free entertainment pass.  This gives free access to all of the evening entertainment, swimming pool, kids clubs and playgrounds. Additional activities such as golf, archery, kart hire and amusements are also available but these are not included in the pass and will incur an additional charge.
